ASHES BELONGS TO ENGLAND
Friday, November 6th, 2009England has done it again consecutively for the second time in winning the Ashes. This is a special moment to cherish for all of us. Full credit goes to the England team and their captain Andrew Strauss for achieving this.
England regained the title as they went on to win the fifth and final test against Australia by 197 runs, leading to 2-1 series win. Michael Hussey was the last man to get caught by Alastair Cook off Graeme Swann after making a battling 121 runs taking his team score to 348 runs, but that was not enough against the huge target of 546 runs set by England.
Steve Harmison took 3 wickets and Swann took 4 wickets that lead to the victory. In the first innings, England made 332 runs but the Australians were able to make only 160 as Stuart Broad and Swann send every batsman to pavilion without much time for them to spend at the crease. Broad claimed 5-37 and Swann 4-38. Then Australia had no chance of coming back into the game and England roped in that chance to win the test as well as the series for the consecutive second time.
All-Rounder Andrew Flintoff will be very happy to exit from the test cricket with the big Ashes win. Let’s hope that this man continues to play international cricket for some more years.
